After individual failures to make sourdough starter, my mother-in-law and I succeeded in not only a starter but a gluten-free one with the help of my nephew. Given that it’s considered bad luck to have an unnamed starter, my mother-in-law dubbed it Violet, a beautiful start to nourishing bread.
